dc.description.abstract The study was designed to investigate the role ICT play in the management of land management of land records at DoL. The specific objectives included to explore types of records at DoL, establish systems and procedures of records management, describe the application of ICT in records management and to identify benefits and challenges of the application of ICT in records management at DoL. The study used interview schedule and questionnaires to collect data from heads of ICT units, registries and users. These respondents were chosen from the population through purposive sampling technique. According to the data gathered, ICT has been used to transform records management activities including creation, classification, storage, retrieval, use and security of records. These changes have come with benefits including ease of tracking, ease of retrieval, economy of space, multiple access to records, enhanced security of records and ease of reporting. However, the programme has equally been undermined by different challenges such as lack of resources financial resources or otherwise; corruption associated with mismanagement of funds; lack of technical capacity, apathy from management and fear of vulnerability associated with technology. To this extent, the study recommended that the department should allocate more resources to the programme, building technical capacity of staff members, enhanced sensitization, conflict resolution and more investment on interoperable infrastructure and e-service delivery. en_US
