LIMITATIONS IN THE CONVECTIONAL ISBN - 10 CODE
(2012) Kamaku, Waweru; Mwathi, Cecilia; Kivunge, Bernard
The I nternational S tandard B ook N umber system (ISBN - 10) which was in operation until 2007 uniquely identified every book published internationally but was later replaced with the ISBN - 13 . The code was had the ability to detect and correct single errors, to detect and correct some transposition errors and also d etect multiple errors. This paper discusses some major limitations in the code and shows how error detection and correction capabilities affected the total dictionary on the code. The paper then shows the great need that lead to the development of the ISBN

ON SOME PROPERTIES AND LIMITATIONS IN THE ISBN-13 CODE
(2012) Kamaku, P. Waweru; Kivunge, Bernard; Wangeci, Cecilia
The International Standard Book Number system-13 (ISBN-13 ) is a thirteen digit code which uniquely identifies every book pub lished internationally. The code was formed as an improvement to the ISBN-10 code whic h could detect and correct some errors but could generate fewer code words t hus the great need for expansion. This paper highlights some properties, discuss es major limitations and shows the error detection and correction capabilities in th e code versus the effect the total number of code words that the code can generate.

Suborbits and Suborbital Graphs of the Symmetric Group acting on Ordered r-element Subsets
(2013) Rimberia, Jane; Kamuti, Ireri; Kivunge, Bernard; Kinyua, Francis
The ranks and subdegrees of the symmetric group n S acting on [ ] r X , the set of all ordered r -element subsets from X have been studied (See Rimberia [4]). In this pape r, we examine some properties of suborbits and suborbital graphs of n S acting on [ ] r X
